‘Tidal’ is a body of work which was prompted during Melbourne’s lockdowns of 2020 & 2021. I look back on this time of isolation and the arrival of my first born and reflect on these paintings as the flotsam and jetsam.
The works explore the tension between paints materiality and application. With these works the physicality of surface and the momentum of painterly trace play out experimentally. I found freedom in colour and gesture. These works operate in an area of uncertainty with each work informing the next.
The formlessness in the works knock about and flow over their edges. Escaping containment. This show sets up the audience with these curious and ambiguous relationships and lets them choose their interacting with the work.
