TANGIBLE UNCERTAINTY

ROB BARTOLO

26 May to 17 June 2017

Rob Bartolo uses nocturnal landscapes as a backdrop or stage to illuminate a series of narratives. Those narratives are fuelled by the activity of the Melbourne streets at night. The work has a further dark undertone, which is influenced by the artists’ experiences in life, exploring the different generational shifts in current society, assessing the connection of the acceleration of current life, and how that may be connected to depression in today’s society.
By experimenting with heavy glazing, layering of images on canvas, playing with darkness and light, the artist creates a drama and uneasy serenity.
