PHALL IS ALL I SEE

NOAH SPIVAK

11 May to 2 June 2018

Born and raised in Vancouver CA, Spivak’s works offer no personal autobiography. His current processes isolate, break and reconstitute the materials that compose photographs; versions of the photographic that present audiences with the distance that can exist between a physical object and a study of visual re-presentation.
The artists’ fascination with the human senses, the ambiguity of the everyday and the space in which the art experience occurs is culminated here in a site-responsive installation that explores how we experience visual art and the subconscious descisons we make leading up to that moment. The sporadic composition of “Phall Is All I See”, in conjunction with The Cupboard itself, instills a level of intrigue and hesitation within its audience, though the balance of these sensations lives entirely within each viewer – and ultimately their decision to become a participant.
