INKED
MELANIE CAPLE
9 September to 1 October 2016

Cut, carve, heat, slice, rub, roll, ink. After focusing on drawing for the last few years - tightening up her technique and rendering native flora, fauna and mountain ranges delicately in graphite - Melanie recently decided to roll up her sleeves and delve in to what sparked her initial desire to go in to the arts – paint and printmaking.
Continuing to document the organic forms that surround her when in Gippsland and revelling in the physicality of using lino cutting tools and rollers, she also embraced a certain unpredictability that can occur in the end result.
Placing the permanence and strength of black ink alongside the delicate qualities of watercolour, and exploring how a blade can shear the natural flow of a line, Inked is a celebration of form and medium.
