WHAT DO YOU DO WHEN ALL OF YOUR ROLE MODELS ARE GONE?

Objects and symbols can become iconic.

Iconic because they represent a time in history that cannot and should not be forgotten. Over time texts become infamous, ignored, celebrated and sometimes made into films.

By using first edition books by celebrated queer writers, hundreds of red ribbons and simple pen marks to change or illuminate a complex narrative, this exhibition presents a snapshot in time where people would appear and then suddenly disappear; when wearing a ribbon was sometimes the only thing you could do.

This is set in a time when it felt inevitable.

This is how it was.
