YOUR AFTERPRINT STILL LINGERS

HOOTAN HEYDARI

21 June to 13 July 2019

Your Afterprint Still Lingers is a continuation of Hootan Heydari’s concern with and enquiry into the ideas of the migrant experiences of displacement, memory and belonging. Heydari employs personally significant objects and culturally symbolic materials to create a series of works on paper and three dimensional objects that speak of the distance between the ‘here’ and ‘there’ of belonging and not-belonging with specific focus on Iran and Australia.
The works are concerned with the central importance of memory in human survival and belonging; they explore the ways in which memory privileges the subjective experiences of, and feelings about, past events rather than their factual accuracy. The role that memories play, fictive or otherwise, in creating a sense of belonging to a place, or longing for a mythical other place, is at the heart of Your Afterprint Still Lingers.
