REGENERATION
HELEN FRENCH
23 Nov to 15 Dec 2018

The recent work of Helen French is based on her concern for the enormous waste occurring in modern society, particularly the recognised consequence on the environment related to the production methods used globally in the textile industry, as well as in the manufacture of throw away fast fashion.
For several years, Helen has been developing methods to use discarded items in her art practice and has created a constant flow of diverse ideas to produce work incorporating collage, paint, paper, embroidery, fabric and found objects. Thread is often used as a drawing material. Silk is applied in the mosaic technique and larger fabric configurations are used to create complicated abstractions.
Her aim is to remove the identity of a chosen item. Thus transforming it into a workable art medium, with a renewed existence that is unrelated to the original.
