MEMENTO

Emma Carter is a Melbourne based artist working in painting and collage assemblage. Her current series of works examines the idea of the portrait as a memento. Referring to past cultural practices of the portrait as a keepsake, she reworks the ornamentation styles of Jasperware and classical Cameos into images

selected from family photos from personal and found collections. The works are an exploration of how we access social histories through exploring the personal engagement with familiar images.
