PAINTINGS

The artworks in ‘Paintings’ fall within the tradition of process-based abstract painting. Narrative and academic conceptual framework are disregarded with the view that the artwork is empty of inherent meaning and does not exist independent of the mind of the observer, whose response will be a function of their previous states of existence. The intention behind creating the artwork is to use up paint that has been purchased for the purpose of being applied to an area of canvas with pre-purchased brushes. The form of each work develops following sweeping, gliding or percussive movements taken to create texture and intuitively layer shapes and materials. Structures appearing within each composition may be seen as mental impressions ripening in visual form according to a natural process that mirrors experiences in everyday life arising as a result of an individual’s volition and personal circumstances.
