In my work I explore the human relationship to landscape and how we navigate the space around us. The journey and its accompanying narrative are also core themes in my work. In these drawn works on paper I reflect on the symbolic theme of the journey, or quest, within the context of traditional folk tales and myths.
Withdrawal into the forest provides the starting point for many traditional tales, and this human relationship to the rural landscape provides me with the visual catalyst for further exploration through my work. The project’s title ‘The Witnesses’ refers to the trees and the forest landscape, ever-present witnesses to the human journey.
