NOT QUITE RIGHT

CAROLINE MCGRATH

28 April to 20 May 2017

Caroline’s art practice speaks of the emotional and psychological repercussions of childhood experiences and the resulting behaviours and feelings that may be carried into adulthood. Her work investigates how past events can subconsciously manifest in daily living and in interactions with others. Caroline works mainly in performance and video art which may include:
painting with text, drawing and installation. In her performance and video work she aims to create an emotional conflict within the viewer of wanting to turn away, yet feeling compelled to persist in watching. This current video work, “Not Quite Right”, shows the artist in the bath displaying signs of madness and psychosis, one result of her childhood experiences.
