BODIES AND DISEMBODIED

This collection of etching prints and sgraffito ceramics are ongoing works expressing the distortion of optics through contoured and continuous line- drawing, while my drawn fabric studies emphasis the opposite, a technical development. In their relationships, I make connection between modes of expressing an image through vision and coordination. My work fuses fabric to body making comparisons through gesture and form, accentuated by the medium of charcoal and the transformative processes of intaligo printmaking and ceramics.
They are homages to the process of drawing itself, to show the mindfulness that line-work can play to the eye as I enforce restraint in my imagery. With influence from Greenburg’s ‘formalist’ theory of art, I attempt to repair the divide between craft and art by a purification of process and method, accrediting the technical effort of art over the conceptual.
